Soof is a distinctive style of embroidery that is defined by its geometric motifs and tessellated triangular designs. It is practiced by women from the Sodha community in Gujarat in the western region of India. Like many indigenous textile traditions in India, soof is passed down through generations of women.

Explore the intricate craft of soof embroidery at our immersive Nila Workshop, guided by the expert artisan Geetaben Bhanani. Geetaben’s journey with embroidery began at a young age, learning the traditional techniques of soof, kharak, and ralli stitching from her mother. Her skill and creativity have grown over the years, making her an exceptional quilter and embroiderer. Her work has taken her to prestigious design institutions, where she has shared her knowledge as a guest teacher.

Whether you're new to embroidery or looking to refine your skills and techniques, this day-long session with Geetaben will give you a deeper understanding of the craft practices at the heart of Indian textile traditions. The workshop also includes all materials and lunch at Nila.
