Sacred Petal Scrunchie

The ‘Sacred Petal’ scrunchie is the result of our love for eco-printing – the gentle process of printing textiles with flowers and leaves. By using temple flowers that have passed their prime, this technique becomes a waste-minimising and sustainable, with a hint of sacred ritual. The scrunchies are made from handwoven mulberry silk that gives off the most delicate shine. 

The scrunchies come in two colours – marigold and indigo – referencing the source of the delicately speckled pigment. Whilst the marigold silk was made by the eco-printing process, the textile for the indigo scrunchie was created with a more painterly approach at the Adiv Pure Naturals studio in Mumbai. The textile was specially created by splattering natural indigo by hand. When rinsed, the subtle run from the dye leaves behind an ice blue hue against the spots of indigo.  

The scrunchies have been stitched by the women associated with the Bagru chapter of our sister organisation LBCT. Nila’s training sessions with the women of LBCT create a space for skill development, particularly with crafts that translate into better livelihood opportunities.

Mulberry Silk with Flower Pigments 

Hand wash separately in cold water.  

No two pieces will be identical. Eco-printing is a technique that celebrates chance, which means the textile from which the scrunchies are made is not uniform. The rich natural colour of the pigments may fade slightly over time.
