MIDNIGHT GARDEN CUSHION

Inspired by a garden of mythological plants at midnight, our deep blue indigo cushion carries rich hand-embroidery. The inky shade of indigo was achieved after 7-8 dips in natural vats over weeks, after which the dyed cotton yarns were hand-woven on pit looms.

This cushion is a special design collaboration between the Nila studio and our sister organisation, Lady Bamford Charitable Trust, that helps provide financial independence and social empowerment for women's groups. Each cushion has been fully embroidered by hand, borrowing stitching techniques from an antique piece.

Natural indigo is a millennia-old plant dye. The alchemy of earth, water, air, and indigo leaves creates an unpredictable beauty. The rich natural colour of the indigo textile may fade slightly over time, with exposure to direct sunlight.
